Hey, there! I’m Nina and I blog over at Flowers in my Hair. You’ll find me writing about everyday adventures and the truth about them, DIY , beauty, travel, writing (because I call myself a writer), photography, recipes (typically recipes from my Italian family), health, books (they are kind of a vice but I show remarkable restraint by posting 1-2 times a month about them), short essays about serious stuff or things I am learning (on Thursdays), organization (by blogging about it, I have to try and organize my chaos), a bit on blogging itself, and probably a lot of other things. I also love elephants. If you don’t know me, I thought I would show you some things that make my world a little more beautiful. I think finding the beauty, the adventure in the everyday, in the mundane is so important. It’s like building up your muscles so when really terrible things happen in the world, even then, you can still spot beauty amidst the chaos and pain.
Then there are the things that just make you smile because you are you and as Dr. Seuss would say that is truer than true. These are things that make me grin from ear to ear:
I love them. They make me so happy. People I have never met in real life send me messages that they spotted an elephant lamp at Target or have I seen this elephant watch. Somehow, I have become known as the elephant blogger…which I am very much okay with.2. Polka Dots.
They used to be my signature but I think they have been replaced by elephants. At the same time, there will always be the appeal.
3. Most anything, leopard.
I don’t care what anyone says, it is a neutral. I am incredibly picky about my animal print though. There is a difference between cheesy and classic leopard. I guess I am a leopard snob, if such a thing exists.
4. Anything Nautical.
A friend teases me about this. She says I want to look like I am in the navy. I mean, maybe? All I know is that things that are navy and white (especially striped and a bit preppy looking) call to me. How does this make sense with leopard? I don’t know but I make it work.
5. Flowers in my Hair.
They make me feel beautiful inside and outside–like anything could happen. I recently did a tutorial on how I made this one here. 6. The Beautiful Women in my Family.
It’s not because I am skilled (far from it). 8. Friends.
Both the real people in my life and the television show if you want to get technical about it.
9. Snail Mail.
It makes me feel so loved!
Is there anything better? (Just see that first picture up there).
I could go on and on.
What are some things you love for the sake of loving?
