Those who battle daily with acne-prone skin really know that the struggle is seriously real. And those of us who are still struggling with it in our adulthood are just about fed up with it. I mean acne is just something teenagers deal with, right? That’s what I thought. But when my teenage acne didn’t disappear once I turned 20, I was in for a rude awakening. I went to dermatologist after dermatologist and the treatment I was prescribed helped for a bit but for the past year my face has declared war on me. Fortunately, I’ve been able to pinpoint my acne to a hormonal type and I’ve been treating it by changing my diet drastically. No dairy, no sugar, no soy and no wheat, just to name a few of the things I cut out. What I’ve also had to change is my beauty routine. I now have to be careful about what I put on my face since it’s so sensitive.
The biggest change in my makeup was finding the right foundation. I had used MAC for years but as great as it goes on and looks, MAC is horrible for keeping your skin healthy. So I was on the hunt for a foundation that would not only look nice on my face but also would be good for my skin. These are just some of the foundations that I’ve found work best and look best for people with acne-prone skin.
1. Clinique Acne Solutions
This the best choice for foundation if you’re struggling with acne. Its ingredients include salicylic acid, a top fighter against breakouts, and all Clinique products are dermatologist approved. So you won’t go wrong with this one.
2. Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free
This is by far my favorite foundation. With acne-prone skin, you need to make sure that you get a foundation that is oil free so your pores don’t get clogged up any more than they already do. And this formula not only contains any oils but also gives a nice matte finish.
3. Maybelline FIT ME! Matte + Poreless Foundation
Another oil-free matte foundation that really helps in the acne department. Even though it doesn’t contain any acne fighting ingredients, it’s oil free and matte, plus it’s a really great drugstore buy if you’re looking for something fast.
4. e.l.f. Acne Fighting Foundation
This foundation not only contains acne fighting foundation that helps your skin while it’s on your face but it’s also super affordable and goes on nice and smooth.
If you also struggle with blemishes or dark spots from pimples, all of these products are great for covering them up and are extremely build-able without feeling heavy on your face. Remember: When you’re looking for a foundation for your acne-prone skin, be sure to get something that’s matte, oil-free or contains salicylic acid. All of these ingredients are essential when it comes to combating acne and keeping your skin healthy and unharmed. Also, make sure you’re doing proper research on all of the products you’re using on your skin to make sure they don’t irritate or inflame your face.
If you have (or had) struggles with acne, what are some other beauty products you love or would recommend?
