Confession! I have never had my body waxed before. I’ve had my eyebrows done but I wouldn’t count that. That’s like super easy to get done. But I have thought about getting my legs and some other parts of my body waxed but I was too scared to do it. Since I am heading out on vacation in a few days, I decided that it was time to get waxed. I booked my appointment with Waxing the City for my legs and arms.
I thought about doing a Brazilian wax but let’s be honest, I was too scared lol. I really don’t want to be spending time on my vacation having to shave so waxing was the best option. When it comes to finding the right place to get a wax, for me it’s all about the environment. Is it clean, inviting, and knowledgeable!
I think that’s why I have never gotten a wax before because most places don’t feel that way. I have a hard time trusting people or businesses. I also want to make sure that products that are being used are going to work on my sensitive skin.
Waxing the City
Waxing the City is brand new in my area. I was very curious about it when I saw the opening. They do have numerous locations nationwide. I booked my appointment at the Waxing the City’s Sun Prairie location. I was welcomed by the friendly receptionist. She checked me in and had me fill out the necessary forms (like any other business does). We talked about my upcoming vacation. To me, when going to a business I want to make sure that I can have a conversation with you.
While waiting for my Cerologist, Britt (that’s what they call their esthetician) I was looking at their products they had and I was surprised they how many different brands they had but most importantly how they had their own products.[bctt tweet=”Prepping for Vacation with @waxingthecity and why you should wax. ” username=”thejasminemaria”]
Why should you wax?
If you’re like me, shaving can be a pain in the butt. I really don’t want to have to travel with a razor and spend time shaving when I can use that time for something else. But getting wax consistently, your hair grows slower, finer and sparser. When you shave you’re just cutting off the hair at the skin, which means the quantity and thickness of the hair stays the same.
Did you know that when you shave it increase skin sensitivity and create a higher probability for ingrown hairs? So goodbye shaving!
Does it hurt?
NOT ONE BIT. I seriously siked myself for this appointment. I was nervous and Britt could tell that I was but she assured me that it wouldn’t. To my surprise, it didn’t. It went by so fast. You can read all about the type of wax of they use based on the service you’re getting.
Tips Before Getting Waxed:
- Your hair should be pretty long like at least 1/4″. Meaning you should book your appointment 2-4 weeks from the last time you shaved.
- Don’t apply too much skin care products.
- DO NOT self-tan or get a spray tan before your appointment.
- Wear comfortable clothing. They do apply oil to your skin after your waxing to help moisturize your skin and help remove any wax residue.
Tips After Getting Waxed:
- Avoid tanning/sun exposure 48 hours after your waxing.
- Exfoliate your skin with a sugar scrub 48 hours after your waxing. This will help remove any dry/dead skin. I got the Waxing the City sugar scrub in lime scent and it smells like a margarita. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
- Don’t go swimming or get in a hot tub until 48 hours after your waxing.
I loved my experience so much that I already have a booked appointment to get my armpit done the day before I leave for my vacation. I even booked it with Britt because I had so much fun with her. She had me laughing the entire time of my service.
Keep in mind that prices can vary based on your location and the type of service you’re looking to get. So definitely check out your local Waxing the City to see what it cost to get waxed. Thanks to Waxing the City they’re going to be giving away a $50 Gift Card to one lucky winner to get a wax.
