NBR Hair Extensions at Elle’s Beauty Bar

NBR Hair Extensions

Yesterday I did something I’ve been wanting to get done and that get hair extensions. Now I’ve had hair extensions before but they were either clip-ons or taped-in extensions. But this time, I got NBR (Natural Beaded Row) Hair Extensions. I’m sure you’ve probably heard and seen them around by other beauty gurus or even fashion bloggers. It’s quite popular now but finding someone to do them is HARD when you live in Madison, WI.

Thankfully I was reached out by Mary owner of Elle’s Beauty Bar in Sun Prairie, WI and asked if I wanted to give them a try. Of course, I said yes. Now NBR is not cheap. It’s a HUGE investment you have to be willing to make but let me tell you, it’s definitely an investment I was happy with.

About NBR Hair Extensions

NBR (Natural Beaded Row) Hair extensions don’t contain any glue or tape. So you don’t have to worry about hair damage at all. The stylist basically lays the bead around the crown of your head. The hair extension then gets sowed into the beads. Danielle White is actually the creator of NBR which is based in Laguna Beach, California. You can watch this video to learn more about NBR. Now finding stylists that are certified to do NBR extensions is HARD. Because you do have to get the proper training. If you’re in the Madison area, then Mary is the go-to stylist for this.

Let’s answer a few questions that I’ve gotten about NBR Hair Extensions.

How much do NBR Hair Extensions cost? It depends on the amount of volume and length you’re looking for but it costs between $1200-1500. But the price can vary depending on the area you live in. This is just what my stylist charges. This includes the actual cost of the hair extensions, the custom color of your hair to match the extensions, a root smudge to match the extensions to your roots, and custom cut of the extensions to blend with your natural hair. It’s definitely an investment.

How many wefts do you get in a row? I got 7 wefts. Only that many can fit in a row. That probably seems like a lot but the wefts are so thin and light. I also have 18-inch hair. **UPDATE as of 3/9/19 – I decided to go back for 2 rows.

What’s the upkeep on it? Maintenance? You have to get the extensions moved every 6-8 weeks. $155-355 would be the cost of moving the extensions up. This DOES NOT include color or cut.

Do they damage your hair? One of the many reasons why I got these is because of how minimal they damage your hair. NBR Extensions are supposed to be the least damaging extensions. NO matter what you have some natural breakage with extensions. NBR has proven to be the least damaging because they have the least amount of contact points on your head!

Are they extensions heavy? Not at all. I was honestly shocked by how lightweight they are. I can’t even feel them in my head.

Can you style them any way you like? Of course, you can. You can even put the hair in ponytail or bun. Just need to make sure you put your head down to do so. When styling with hot tools, make sure you use heat protector of course. You are also recommended to use hair oil on the extensions.

How long do the extensions last? This is one of the questions I asked Mary and she told me if I take good care of them, they can last 6-9 months.

How long did it take to put the extensions? It all depends. For me, I got 2 rows and colored so it took about 3-4 hours.

Are there any specific products you should use on them? When it comes to shampoo/conditioner you want to make sure that it doesn’t contain any sulfate. You also want to use a “wet brush” when brushing out the hair.

How often should you wash your hair during the week? It is recommended to wash 1-2x a week.

If you’re in the Madison, WI area (or even if you’re willing to travel here) I would highly recommend contacting Mary. If you tell her, I referred you, you can get $100 OFF your installation. As you can see she did an amazing color matching the extensions to my hair and blending them so well. You can’t even tell I have extensions.

P.S. Are you a hairstylist? Looking to rent a chair? Contact her because she is renting a few chairs.

Ever since cutting off a foot of hair to donate last spring, I’ve been missing my long locks! Maybe I should consider getting some extensions, too.

    • I decided to get them done since I’m getting married in September. So I knew I wanted my hair to be somewhat long or have some volume.

They look amazing, Jasmine!! I have had medium length hair for some time now, that I don’t think I could go back to long hair again — especially in windy Texas weather.

Your hair looks so beautiful and natural! I’ve been considering extensions, and if I do it NBR is probably the way I would go too. Did you mainly do it for added fullness? Or length too?
