A couple of weeks ago, I decided to have DNA tested. I ordered the Ancestry DNA kit on my own because I wanted to know where my ancestors are from. If you’re new to the blog, then you probably don’t know but I am 50% Dominican and 50% Ecuadorian. My parents both came to the United States when they were young. And before you ask or assume both my parents are citizens.
My parents met in New York and that’s when they had me and my siblings. I’ve always been curious as to where my parent’s ancestors are from. I’ve heard many stories and assumptions as to where they MAY possibly have come from based on stories their family told them. That’s when I decided it was time to get my DNA tested. Especially now that I have kids and I would love to tell them where my side of the family is originally from.

Why I Chose to Have My DNA Tested
My mom is from Ecuador and from what I’ve been told her family could have been originally from Italy and possibly Native Americans. If you saw what Ecuadorians look like, you would assume they were Native Americans because they look like it. Plus her last name is quite unique (I won’t mention it for privacy) so I knew that her family had to be more.
Now my dad is from the Dominican Republic. Most Dominicans are either light skin or black. My dad knew that his family was originally from Spain but nothing else.
I will say this that being 50/50 has its perks. When I saw my results I was a little shocked. Mostly by what else my DNA results were showing.
As you can see my results are everywhere mainly Native American, African, and European. Which is so cool to me. Because of my results I have decided to have my oldest Rylan get tested. I want to see what his DNA shows. My boy’s father knows for sure his family are German but could be more. So excited to see what my son’s results show.
